The legislature passed the Medicaid budget, and nursing homes will see a cut. But your voices were vital!
It started as a proposed 15 percent cut for the overall nursing home budget, but your efforts reduce it to an average 2.7 percent cut. Thanks to everyone.
The vote in Springfield followed a 16-site tour of nursing homes across the state, calling attention to the devastating impact the proposed cuts would have on nursing homes and their residents. Residents filled out personal baseball cards, calling on lawmakers to "step up to the plate" for nursing homes. Rally day in Chicago earlier this month featured a tremendous turnout of nursing home residents, staff, administrators and supporters who gathered at the Thompson Center to add their voices to the growing opposition to Medicaid cuts for nursing homes.
