We are pleased to report that the budget the Illinois General Assembly has sent to Governor Quinn does not include a 6 percent cut in Medicaid reimbursement rates, which we worked so hard to defeat.
That means seven thousand healthcare workers will not lose their jobs, as we had feared, and we will be able to maintain the proper care and safety of our residents. This is very good news for our wonderful residents, their families and nursing homes across the state of Illinois.
The budget does call for a delayed payment in Medicaid reimbursement funds. While this represents a loss in funding, we believe will be able to get by without significant changes that would affect the care or safety of our residents.
I want to thank our the lawmakers for coming to our defense and restoring the Governor’s cuts. I also want to thank our many friends and supporters who joined our fight. We presented the Governor with more than 25 thousand signatures opposing the cuts which we collected during our 17 city bus tour.
We will continue to monitor the developments in Springfield and be ready to act if necessary.
Pat Comstock, Executive Director Health Care Council of Illinois
